MSDS
EU Regulation No 1907/2006 - also known as REACH Regulation (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) mandates a registration with the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) of materials that are manufactured or imported into the EU. Honeywell supports this process in the interest of consumer and occupational safety as well as environmental protection.
As part of REACH, material safety data sheets (MSDS) of products and formulations need to be created and updated on a regular basis. The MSDS is targeted for those who professionally use the materials. It gives guidelines and addresses extreme conditions such as fires and accidental release which the safe use guidance of the MSDS seeks to prevent.
Professional users can find necessary information in the MSDS, such as information about the producer, the characteristics of the product, information regarding transport and storage, as well as possible risks and the correct handling of the materials. Solstice yf refrigerant is classified according to EU Regulations (Gefahrenstoffverordnung (GefStoffV) November 30, 2010, Regulation No. 1272/2008) as an extremely flammable product. The more relevant norm, DIN EN ISO 817, calls it a mildly flammable product.
Some language in the MSDS may sound alarming for laymen as it identifies potential dangers. Provided the proper storage and handling guidelines are followed, the occurrence of accidents can be prevented and risk can be properly managed.
